The Week of Unemployment

Well.  Austin has been working at Landmark Soil and Engineering this summer.  He learned a few things about dirt, and he made a really good friend, but Austin doesn't really love dirt, and he really wanted a change.  It was so weird.  We were talking about it, and we both felt like it would be really good if he quit.  He had some interviews with various people, but he hadn't been offered anything.  But, I encouraged him, and he finished working there last week.  So weird.  Never imagined that happening.

We took a good little break and went to the Joseph and Lota Kennedy family reunion in Randolph.  It was fantastic.  On our way, we stopped at the Washington County Fair.

Look at me!  Blue ribbon.  And the theme was Fair-adise.  I didn't put the lei on there.

We stopped in Logan and visited Austin's family.  Hung out with the Candis and the James.  Went rock climbing (because that is all we do apparently) and I had a really good climb!  I even cleaned up a route.  And we all looked at wedding pictures.  Big thanks to James for being so patient with me as I tried to get my Mac all configured for his futuristic technology.  It was super fun. I really love my new family.

We listened to The Book Thief as we drove, which was really nice.  I have loved reading it, but hadn't found the time to dedicate to the whole book.  We highly recommend it to anyone.  Shoot.  EVERYONE!

Let's break down the family reunion.  Firstly.  We got to test out our new camping gear!!

Secondly.  Austin got to spend more time with Andrew and Matthew... and the cows.

And thirdly, I was reminded of how important families are.  It was a beautiful weekend.  Bad news.  Neither Austin, nor I, won the rubber duck race... NOR did we win horseshoes... NOR did we win the trivia game.  But!  We did eat well.  And we went on some fun 4-wheel rides.  And.  No one was hurt this weekend.  And.  Little Kyle remembered Austin's name, and I think that basically made his whole weekend a 10.

It was probably our last weekend to hang out before school starts, so that was really nice.  We stop and saw Tanton on our way home, and he courteously gave us some European chocolates.  Yum.

And!  To end the week of unemployment.  Austin got a job!  His first day was today!  I'll give you a glimpse into our texting conversation, and you can see how things are going.

Caroline:  How is work?!

Austin:  Cool!

Boom.  The proof is in the text message.  Austin now works at a bike shop.  Rapid Cycling.  Super neat.  I have zero idea what he does, but I can safely say it has something to do with bikes and he thinks it is cool.  Look!  They have a website.  http://www.rapidcyclingbikes.com  So exciting.
